Teen Impaired Driving:
It is a troubling fact that impaired driving is one of the most common causes of injury and death on the road. But what is even more alarming are the statistics that show what age group has the highest rate of driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. Studies made by concerned Canadian foundations confirmed that more than half of the reported number of drunk drivers over the past several years are made up of teenagers. These findings are somewhat accounted for the volatile nature of young adults who are more susceptible to practicing risky behavior.
Nevertheless, teen impaired driving should be regarded as a major concern by everyone. So if you are a teenager who consumes alcohol and owns a car, or if you have a close young relative who often goes to parties and uses an automobile to travel back home, you need to be aware of the ways to prevent teen impaired driving.
One of the most recent methods to lessen impaired driving among young people is a program known as SafeRides. These programs consist of volunteers who are capable and willing to drive home teenagers that are too drunk to properly maneuver a car. Aside from this program, a contract that is made between young people and their parents has been developed by youth-oriented organizations. This contract states that a teenager shall call up one of his parents if he or the individual who will drive him home is drinking. In return, the parent will pick up his child with no questions asked. Lastly, the traditional way of abstinence is still promoted by foundations among teenagers who drink alcohol.
